Micron Xceed Grayscale Adapter For the Macintosh SE/30

Grayscale Adapter for Micron Xceed PDS Color Video Cards (Replica)

Update May 2023: Restored this google sites page after they changed to a new system. Some info was unfortunately not cleanly transitioned, I wil try to ecentually update it.

Introduction

To make this kit useful, you need a Xceed Color 30, Color 30HR, or MacroColor 30 PDS video card that has an extra white plastic Molex connector to accept a connector from the wire harness. Some cards apparently have no obvious markings, so you have to look out for the connector shown in the image below near the upper left corner.  This replica is not Gamba's design, though it was inspired by his work.  His design could be characterized as a homemade construction with a 1 layer board.  This product was designed to look and function exactly like the original.

When the video cards were manufactured, the grayscale card and harness was an extra option that was not always purchased, therefore, it is more common to find the PDS video card without the grayscale hardware.

See http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/microngray.html for more information on compatibility.

Drivers

Drivers are optional, but you can use these drivers to access additional settings for the external monitor. Note: It seems the firmware is not compatible with System 7.5.5. You might be able to use an older version of the Monitors control panel with 7.5.5.

MacroColor 30:

Control Panel v1.0

Control Panel v2.01

MacroColor 30HR:

Disk Image v3.0

Disk Image v3.5

Resolution Matrix

The Micron Xceed Color 30HR allows for higher resolutions and different frequencies than the non "HR" model on the external monitor. There is no appreciable difference in the function of the internal grayscale capabilities. Any resolution above the its default 640x480 takes a big hit on color depth (4-bit). These extra resolution options are available after installing the MonitorXCEED control panel extension.

Missing Docs!!

If you have these documents / schematics / source code, and would like to get in touch, send me an email. I am mostly curious about the history of the product. It is interesting to see code names such as Bart, Maverick, Icky, and Bartlett. But it would also be great if we could get 040 compatibility!!
